9 Weeks

How our baby's growing - 9 weeks:

Our baby is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. It's starting to look more and more human. Its essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Our baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do the tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Our baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Its eyes are fully formed, but the eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. It has tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that our baby's basic physiology is in place, it's poised for rapid weight gain.

How my life's changing:

I still don't look pregnant even though my waist is thickening a bit. But, I definitely feel pregnant, though. Not only are morning sickness and other physical symptoms out in full force, but I feel like an emotional pinball as well.

According to the babycenter.com:
Mood swings are common now — it's perfectly normal to feel alternately elated and terrified about becoming a parent. Try to cut yourself some slack. Most women find that moodiness flares up at around six to ten weeks, eases up in the second trimester, and then reappears as pregnancy winds to a close.

Doctor Update:
My last progesterone test came back okay. They said my level had only gone up 3 points, and would like to see it go up more. So, still on the pills and have one more blood draw on Monday, October 19th in the morning to check one last time before the OB doc takes over.
My first OB appointment is in 8 days on Tuesday, October 20th at 9:00am! I'm getting so anxious! Hopefully I'll be able to post up a REAL picture of our baby by then. Can't hardly wait!!!

  2. Definitely all I want to do is sleep! I even decided to take off yesterday afternoon from work to do just that. I just felt so exhausted, it was much needed. And, yes... unfortunately the gas is part of the deal too. Lucky Greg! ;-)
